WA pacer Im Themightyquinn has been backed from $4.90 to $4.20 for the $750,000 Sydney Inter Dominion Championship Final before his run in Saturday night's Perth qualifying heat at Gloucester Park.
Player fixed odds betting manager Ben Pomatti said big punters anticipated Im Themightyquinn would be spot on to win a third straight Inters title over 3000m at Menangle on March 3.
He is second favourite, behind New Zealand-trained Terror To Love, a dual Auckland Cup winner who heads Player's market at $3.50.
"There's been a strong commission for Quinnie," Pomatti said.
"He seems sure to be one of the two pacers who will go forward from Saturday's Perth qualifier to the 14-horse final.
"The heavy support indicates leading punters expect him to shrug off recent defeats when he contests the heat.
"He endured a tough run when second to Dasher VC in the Fremantle Cup and again had no favours when runner-up behind Mysta Magical Mach in the Lord Mayor's Cup last Friday week."
Im Themightyquinn has a front-line draw in Saturday's nine-horse field and Pomatti said he would start long odds-on.
Qualifying heats will be run in Sydney (two), New Zealand, Melbourne and Perth within 80 minutes on Saturday.
"We are taking no risks with Quinnie on Saturday and he's $1.35," Pomatti said.
"Next in betting on the local heat are $7 Lombo Navigator, $9 Crombie and $9.50 Dasher VC.
"Mysta Magical Mach appears to face a difficult task from the back line on Saturday and he's $12."
Last month's WA Pacing Cup (2536m) runner-up Crombie has drawn gate one in the Gloucester Park heat and trainer-reinsman Kim Young is determined to lead.
"We'll aim to hold the lead, though a lot of pressure can be expected due to the fact there's so much at stake," Young said.
A heel split which hampered Crombie last month has cleared. He was fitted with a bar shoe and has been trained in soft conditions on a beach.
Pomatti said Terror To Love ($1.40) and Mah Sish ($1.35) would also be odds-on when tackling qualifying heats.
