Pinjarra trainer-reinsman Jason Keys has been stood down from race driving pending a stewards' inquiry into an altercation in the stalls area after Friday night's $30,000 Albany Cup (2683m) won by Adda Paternal Suit.
Keys' drive Miami Terror, an Albany winner at her previous start, finished a distant last of 10 after IP Game Of Chance tackled her for the lead in early stages.
"Stewards have opened an inquiry into incidents which followed the Albany Cup," chief harness racing steward Bill Delaney said yesterday.
"We have granted Jason Keys' application this morning to have legal representation at the inquiry.
"We've heard some evidence and it's planned to resume the inquiry in two weeks."
A two-horse war developed in the cup after Miami Terror went to the front from barrier two and held out IP Game Of Chance (gate five).
Miami Terror and the Noel Keiley-trained IP Game Of Chance, driven by Shane Loone, fought on level terms when racing 30m ahead of third horse Bartel in the first lap.
IP Game Of Chance and Miami Terror finished tailed-off, 125m behind Adda Paternal Suit.
Fourth-generation reinsman Keys, 40, said yesterday the Andrew De Campo-trained Adda Paternal Suit had no involvement in complaints he lodged to stewards.
"I went to stewards before the cup," Keys said.
"I told them I planned to lead, and that excessive pressure from a challenger was expected.
"I told stewards I'd had enough of challengers ruining their own chances and the prospects of leaders by unnecessarily fighting for the front. I have since emphasised that it's happening too often.
"My actions after the cup will draw attention to the bad situation. I'll have to cop the consequences."
Meanwhile, harness racing chief handicapper Warren Wishart has named the 12-horse field to contest Friday night's $50,000 San Simeon Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
