Chatfield hopes for redemption
Australian netball vice-captain Bianca Chatfield has no doubt how her team's Commonwealth Games campaign will end.
"In the final against New Zealand," she predicts.
It's the same scenario that has concluded all four of the Commonwealth netball competitions.
With New Zealand taking gold at the last two Games, Chatfield and her team have a point to prove.
"I'm expecting New Zealand but England and Jamaica are getting closer, they're very close," she said.
"We cant afford to slacken off in the rounds when we play England or hopefully when we face Jamaica in the semi-final."
The 2010 final was a heart-breaker, lost in double extra-time.
Chatfield is hoping time spent at the pointy end of the ANZ Championship will hold her and her teammates in a better stead for 2014.
"It does help, playing in the best competition in the world at the moment in finals," she said.
"We've probably got the stronger players here and more to choose from.
"But when you get over there, Australia versus New Zealand is always a tight match.
Her Melbourne Vixens side topped the table and play Queensland Firebirds for a place in the final on Monday.
At the conclusion of the competition, Australia's 12-player squad will get together in Canberra for a week's training.
They'll spend another week in Manchester before crossing the Scottish border for the Games.
Chatfield said a combination of injuries and form denied her a spot at the 2010 Delhi games but she was better for the experience.
"Things happen for a reason and I feel like I'm in a better spot now."
Chatfield was speaking at the unveiling of the team uniforms, on Glasgow Street, Collingwood, which revealed a distinctively retro theme.
Nanna knits and Dunlop volleys feature alongside chunky scarves and "rainforest" green jackets.
The unfiforms were locally designed and manufactured by Australian Defence Apparel.
Chatfield gave the uniforms her tick of approval.
"I can just imagine the netballers all trying to figure out which outfits look best," she said.
The Games begin with an opening ceremony at Celtic Park on July 23.
