Davis dropped from Warriors squad

The cricket career of West Australian batsman Liam Davis hangs in the balance, with the classy opener still struggling to overcome a serious finger injury.

Davis' career has been in freefall since breaking his right little finger last year.

The 29-year-old, who won WA's player of the year award in 2011/12, failed to play for the Warriors last summer, and he has since been dropped from their list of contracted players.

"He'll need to work out if his finger allows him to play cricket again," WA coach Justin Langer said.

"If he can get back on the park, there's no reason why he can't play for Western Australia again."

Burt Cockley and Luke Towers have also been omitted from WA's updated contract list, while in-form opener Marcus North has retired.

Former South Australian skipper Michael Klinger has signed on with the Warriors on a two-year deal, while batsman Tom Beaton and medium-fast bowler Andrew Tye have been added to the squad.

WA are keen for paceman Michael Hogan to return next summer, but that will be dependant on his county side Glamorgan.

Langer was pleased to keep the majority of his squad together following their run to the Sheffield Shield final last season.

He said the addition of 33-year-old Klinger was vital following North's retirement.

"Michael Klinger will be a great asset for us," Langer said.

"He's a great leader. Hopefully, he'll make plenty of runs but, most importantly, his influence as a person around the group will be enormous."
