Brisbane's tropical weather has delayed the start of play in the first Test between Australia and South Africa at the Gabba.

Overnight storms have been followed by steady rain this morning.

South Africa will resume at 2-255 when play commences with Hashim Amla not out 90 and Jacques Kallis on 84.

However, the Proteas have suffered a setback with JP Duminy rupturing his achilles tendon while warming down after yesterday's opening day.

He will not take any further part in the Test series, leaving South Africa one man down in this Test.
