All Eagles rejoice in steady flow of goals

An added emphasis on attacking and being unselfish has been the key factor behind West Coast’s big scores this year, according to star forward Mark LeCras.

The Eagles kicked 21 goals against Gold Coast last Saturday night to win by 92 points.

The performance included a stunning third term when they kicked 12 goals straight.

West Coast have kicked more than 100 points in four of their seven games and only Hawthorn have scored more in 2015.

The Hawks’ firepower has helped them win the past two premierships and LeCras said it was clear that teams had to become more potent to advance up the ladder.

“That’s one thing that has happened this year,” LeCras said. “You can’t wait for the other team at the moment.

“We’ve been trying to bring the pressure from the start and trying to hit the scoreboard.

“Obviously the earlier you can get a good lead, the better. You look at the other good teams at the moment, like Freo, and they seem to be playing a really attacking brand of footy as well.

“It’s good for a forward to get the inside 50s.

“It feels like we’ve got a really good balance up there. We’re starting to get some experience. We’ve got some young guys there, but we’ve also got quite a few mids who are rotating at the moment. It makes it hard for the opposition to match up on.”

Five Eagles have kicked 10 goals or more this season and 21 players have kicked at least one major. The Eagles have also been extremely accurate, as their 21.9 against the Suns showed.

West Coast’s potency in attack has helped them boost their percentage to 156.6, ensuring they started the round in second position. They will be hoping to consolidate against St Kilda at their bogy venue, Etihad Stadium, today.

The Eagles have lost five of their past seven games there, including round one this year to the Western Bulldogs. They will be buoyed by the return of rugged midfielder Scott Selwood and key defender Jeremy McGovern, while the Saints will be without champion forward Nick Riewoldt (conussion).
