Crow McGovern follows in the family�s footsteps
When Mitch McGovern was picked by Adelaide yesterday afternoon everyone was rapt for him, but there were a few choice words from his older brother, emerging West Coast player Jeremy.
"He said 'sucked in, you're not at my team'," Mitch McGovern told _The West Australian _.
McGovern rocketed into draft contention late in the year after overcoming a foot injury to play 11 league games for Claremont.
The 20-year-old was selected with the Crows' third-round pick, No.43.
His national draft selection makes him the third member of his family to graduate to the AFL after Jeremy and his father Andrew (Fremantle and Sydney).
McGovern said Adelaide's recruiters had put plenty of work into him since the national combine, but he was still surprised to see them read out his name.
He said he couldn't wait to move to South Australia and play alongside some of the best young talent in the league.
"Obviously playing alongside Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane are probably the main ones," he said.
"Just the way Sloane is so hard at the ball and Danger's pace and use of the footy.
"But I'm just excited to meet everyone."
The 191cm forward possesses a vertical leap which enables him to hold down a key position if needed, though he is likely to develop into a second or third tall at AFL level.
He kicked 10 goals in his 11 games for Claremont last season and averaged close to five marks.
