Eagles to get a new nest

The West Coast Eagles are set to move to Lathlain Park before the opening of the new Perth Stadium at Burswood in 2018 after the lease agreement was approved by the Victoria Park council last night.

As predicted in The Weekend West, West Coast and the Town of Victoria Park will make a 99-year commitment to each other when mayor Trevor Vaughan and West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett meet to sign the lease and make a public announcement this morning.

The signing of the lease, for the next 50 years with the option of a further 49, will kick off the building of West Coast's next-generation training facility.

It is part of a $60 million development for Lathlain Park, which includes new facilities for Perth Football Club and the community.

The new facility will include two full-sized football ovals - one with the dimensions of the new Perth Stadium and the other the size of the MCG.

The second oval will be available for community use when the Eagles are not using it for training.

Mr Vaughan said the project hopefully would be finished by the end of 2017, ready for the opening of Perth Stadium for the 2018 AFL season.
