The Great Southern Football League qualified for consecutive division 3 grand finals at the Landmark Country Football Championships after belting Hills Football Association by 118 points at East Fremantle Oval this afternoon.
Heading into the match strong favourites after their commanding win over Central Wheatbelt yesterday, the GSFL produced a clinical first term which yielded 12 goals to set up their second win of the championships.
Led by a dominant midfield the GSFL piled on the seven goals to start the first quarter and entered the opening break 57-points ahead with Brayden Parker, Daniel Parker and livewire Michael Bennell all having two goals to their name.
The second quarter was very similar to the first as ruckman David Stone was well on top giving his midfield led by Jarrod Whittle and David Parker first use.
The GSFL piled on a further eight goals in the second term and while Hills managed to kick four of their own, the game was effectively over at half time given the GSFL’s 84-point lead.
Bennell produced the highlight of the day in the second term, kicking the ball up to himself off the ground before running into to boot a freakish goal.
Hills were more competitive after half time but with the sting out of the contest and a grand final awaiting, the GSFL rested several key players on the bench including key forward Zak Hortin who didn’t play after quarter time.
Dave Parker was brilliant in the midfield before going forward to kick four majors and his younger brother Brayden Parker was a constant threat to finish with five majors.
Whittle worked himself into the ground in the middle and veteran Sam Lehmann and Jayden Woods were also key contributors.
The GSFL will face either Central Wheatbelt or North Midlands, who are currently playing, in tomorrow’s grand final at East Fremantle Oval at 10am.
