West Coast midfielder Scott Selwood will go under the knife this afternoon in a move that could end his season.

Selwood has been struggling with an ankle problem since round three but the club yesterday said it was exploring all options and hopeful of avoiding surgery.

But club’s medical staff today decided that surgery was the best option for the 24-year-old.

Selwood’s recovery period has been set at between 10 and 12 weeks meaning he has an uphill battle to play again in 2014.

The move does not count out the co vice-captain from being a genuine candidate to replace the retired Darren Glass as captain for 2015.
