New Eagles hero misses training

UPDATE 3.15pm: Young tall Jeremy McGovern was absent from training this morning, fresh from helping West Coast to victory over Gold Coast with his last-quarter heroics.

McGovern, who booted the final goal of the game to put the Eagles back in front and then took two telling marks in defence to seal the three-point win, was missing from this morning’s open session at Patersons Stadium ahead of their clash with the bottom-placed St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Star forward Jack Darling was another absentee from the track, along with key midfielder Scott Selwood, who is today having surgery on his troublesome ankle.

Dean Cox was on the track and looks ready for a return against the Saints after being rested for the win over the Suns.

On-baller Luke Shuey (ankle) joined his teammates, before being separated from the main group for a series of run throughs on the boundary.

Reigning club champion Matt Priddis was on light duties, while defender Beau Waters no longer has the sling on the shoulder he had operated on and is still restricted in what he’s allowed to do.

Coach Adam Simpson had lengthy chats to a number of the players during the session, which had a strong emphasis on executing skills under pressure.

Training was moved forward by an hour in order to avoid the worst of the weather this morning.
