Cometti: Dockers on the path to Sainthood

Cometti: Comfortably my worst yet ...

It was interesting to sit with St Kilda's Leigh Montagna at Etihad Stadium yesterday.

He was part of our Sunday commentary team and fair to say few people know Ross Lyon's blueprint for winning footy better than Leigh.

I couldn't resist asking him if Fremantle were better at it than St Kilda!

Competitive to his red, black and white socks, Leigh didn't concede they were but he did say the Dockers were "very impressive".

It must be like a sense of deja vu.

The parts are almost interchangeable from the team he starred in.

Pavlich is now Riewoldt, Clarke is Koschitzke, Fyfe is Hayes to his very number, left-footer Hill is just a quicker Dal Santo, Ballantyne is Milne right down to the chip on his shoulder and Zac Dawson is, well he's obviously still Zac Dawson.

The Dockers weren't great yesterday but they were great at what they do.

It's not often you easily win a game of footy with 52 fewer possessions, 26 fewer inside 50s, 15 fewer clearances, one more tackle and only four free-kicks for the day (can that be possible ... call me old fashioned but I think one a quarter is stretching the friendship).

Too many coaches waffle on about all manner of alternative scoreboards but there is really only one that counts.

Ross Lyon (and Leigh Montagna) know everything else is just the means to an end.
