Shuey in doubt for clash with Pies

Midfielder Luke Shuey missed this morning’s open training session ahead of West Coast’s crunch clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.

The rest of the Eagles squad – apart from the two players on the injury list, Beau Waters and Blayne Wilson – trained strongly in wet conditions at Patersons Stadium after enjoying a bye on the weekend.

Shuey was substituted out of the Eagles’ round one clash against the Western Bulldogs due to soreness but was able to play the following week against Melbourne.

The 23-year-old Victorian missed their round five loss to Geelong through suspension but has played every game since, despite appearing to tweak an ankle in the round seven western derby.

Shuey suffered with calf and hamstring problems in the second half of last season but the club said today’s absence was simply a matter of resting him due to his training loads.

Several players are trying to press their claims to replace the suspended Mark LeCras against the Magpies.

One of those in line for a recall, ruckman-forward Callum Sinclair left the track early, while LeCras completed a taxing running program later in the session as his teammates competed in full-ground drills.
