Swans go cold on Garlett return

Dayle Garlett is today stuck in football limbo after Swan Districts chief executive Tom Bottrell today declared the troubled teenager was “not part of the club’s 2014 plans”.

In a statement released this afternoon Bottrell said Garlett had yet to tell the club of his intentions for this season and beyond.

He said the club remained concerned for Garlett’s welfare but were happy with their squad as it stands.

Garlett starred for Swans last year, kicking 48 goals in 19 games and earning him an AFL lifeline after previously being overlooked because of off-field issues.

“Discussions between Swan Districts and Dayle Garlett’s manager have not revealed his future intentions,” the statement said.

“The Swans’ Board remains concerned for the welfare of the troubled former Hawthorn draftee.

“CEO Tom Bottrell said that the club’s board was particularly happy with the desire and commitment of the player group and Garlett was presently not part of the club's 2014 plans.”
