Colledge in the mix for debut
Colledge in the mix for debut

UPDATE: West Coast youngster Brant Colledge is closer to making his AFL debut against Melbourne on Sunday after joining the West Coast travelling party this morning.

Colledge was spotted in the Eagles travelling uniform following a quick training session at Patersons Stadium and was later at the airport as the squad headed east.

He was included in West Coast's 23-man squad, which also featured Brad Sheppard. One of the duo was likely to be the emergency on Sunday.

Round-one debutant Dom Sheed was the only omission from the side which beat the Western Bulldogs by 65 points at the weekend and ruckman Scott Lycett and Josh Hill were cut from the extended squad revealed last night.

Lycett and Hill will play with East Perth in the WAFL.

The Demons added Dean Kent, Michael Evans and Sam Blease to the 22 which lost to St Kilda in round one.

Colledge was relatively unknown at the start of the year but put his name in lights with a series of solid games in the NAB Challenge.

A best-on-ground effort for East Perth in the WAFL at the weekend furthered his claims on a spot in the Eagles’ best side.

The 19-year-old had 23 touches, eight clearances, five tackles and a goal playing through the Royals midfield and outshone some far more experienced teammates.
