Dockers recruit to miss half of season
Scott Gumbleton's injury woes just got worse with Fremantle confirming their key off-season signing will be sidelined for 12 weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Dockers reported today that scans revealed Gumbleton had torn the muscle during the NAB Challenge match with Western Bulldogs on Wednesday.
The diagnosis was made by a specialist in Melbourne, who recommended the former Essendon big man would miss half the 2014 season.
General manager of football operations Chris Bond said it was a blow for Gumbleton after the WA product had gone through the pre-season training program without incident.
“It’s very frustrating for Scott given the preparation he has had. At this stage we expect that he will miss the next 12 weeks,” Bond said.
It is a big blow for the Dockers, who traded for Gumbleton at the end of last season.
Fremantle had hoped Gumbleton could help solve a deficiency of talls in the forward line.
But Gumbleton has had a history of injury issues during his time in the AFL. The 25-year-old has played 35 matches since his debut with the Bombers in 2007.
