UPDATE: Joondalup Arena has been cleared to host the West Coast versus Fremantle NAB Challenge game on Tuesday, February 18 following an inspection today.

There had been concerns from the Eagles about the oval's grass in the wake of the Big Day Out concert last Sunday.

Patersons Stadium general manager Gavin Taylor, who oversaw the turf assessment after the concert at the weekend, had said an initial inspection indicated most of the grass had come up well and any areas that hadn't would be replaced.

"We had a few things work in our favour," Taylor said before the inspection. "They only had about 12,000 or 13,000 come through the gates for the Big Day Out, which certainly helped."

West Coast football manager Craig Vozzo was worried about the welfare of players, saying first indications were that some areas of the playing surface were very hard after the concert.

"We are really concerned with the state of the surface and we will be wanting to take no risks with our players," he said. "We will be monitoring the process closely."

Taylor said the WAFC would have a no-risk approach to player safety.

"If a patch of turf is damaged and there is any doubt that it would recover in time for the game, we will be replacing it with jumbo ready-to-play roll-out turf," he said.

Taylor said the WAFC had considerable experience using the rolls, replacing a large patch of turf at Patersons Stadium after AC/DC concerts and occasionally replacing the worn centre area of the ground mid-season.

When turf had been replaced mid-season, players had been able to train on the affected area the following day.

"We have got 12 days to bed this down so there is plenty of time," he said.
