West Coast have confirmed small forward Murray Newman isn't in further trouble after he was caught in a miscommunication today.

The Eagles issued a statement today saying Newman had "been in an incident last week" and had been charged by the police.

The report was published by several media agencies.

However, the club quickly withdrew the release, contacting, to say the statement was an error and Newman was not in further trouble. "This was an old press release that was inadvertently sent by the email system," the statement said.

The 20-year-old was charged last year with grievous bodily harm last year following an incident outside a Perth nightclub.

Newman is working his way back to senior football with Swan Districts.
