Gold Coast Suns midfielder arrested

Gold Coast Suns player Harley Bennell has been charged with disorderly conduct after being arrested in Mandurah overnight after fights broke out in a mall.

Police were called to the Smart Street Mall about 2.15am where a group of people near nightclubs were fighting.

The nightclubs and surrounding area were locked down and everyone in the area was moved on.

It is believed 20-year-old Bennell was taken to Mandurah police station just after 2am and bailed this morning.

He has been charged with disorderly conduct.

Bennell was recruited to the Suns from Peel Thunder after being selected with Pick 2 in the 2012 National Draft.

He played 22 games for the club in 2012 and finished runner-up to Gary Ablett in the club championship.

The arrest comes after Collingwood defender Marley Williams was accused of breaking another man’s jaw outside a nightclub in his home city of Albany last week.

The 19-year-old was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after police allege he confronted the other man outside Studio 146 and punched him in the face.
