Eagle flies off to Port Adelaide

Another West Coast player has a new home, with defender Lewis Stevenson to play on with Port Adelaide next season.

Stevenson moved interstate as part of a three-way trade deal that also involved Power midfielder David Rodan moving to Melbourne.

Port Adelaide collected pick No.88 in next month's draft for Rodan which they passed on to the Eagles in exchange for Stevenson.

A rookie draft selection in 2008 Stevenson, recruited from Claremont, played 10 matches for West Coast. Although close to selection in the senior line-up in 2012 he failed to play an AFL match.

The Power's football manager Peter Rohde was pleased to pick up Stevenson.

“Lewis has often been really close to selection in what is a very good West Coast line-up and was an emergency on several occasions in 2012, including in their semi-final,” Rohde said.

“While he couldn’t break into the AFL team, he has done everything right and has been very impressive with his WAFL side Claremont, where he was part of their back-to-back premierships in the past two seasons.

“His 2012 form was possibly the best of his career and he comes very highly recommended by football people in Western Australia.

“We’re thrilled that he’s excited by the opportunities he sees at Port Adelaide. West Coast have been terrific to deal with and are very understanding and happy that Lewis can pursue those opportunities with us.”

Stevenson is the second West Coast player to move to Port in the past year. Brad Ebert returned to his home State for the 2012 season after 76 games in four seasons with the Eagles.

Two other Eagles, Quinten Lynch and Koby Stevens, have left the club recently, headed for Collingwood and Western Bulldogs respectively for the 2013 season.
