Embley heads list of Eagles re-signings
Embley heads list of Eagles re-signings

Andrew Embley will get his wish to finish his AFL career as a one-club player after he signed a contract extension with West Coast today.

Embley joined a quartet of Eagles to re-commit to the WA team. But key forward Quinten Lynch wasn't one of them.

The Norm Smith medallist in West Coast's 2006 premiership, Embley has the opportunity to join the Eagles' 250-game club. The 31-year-old has notched 239 matches.

Embley has signed on for one more year while Pat McGinnity, Jacob Brennan and Brad Sheppard agreed to new two-year deals.

“It’s nice to have the contract extended for 12 months,” Embley told the club's website. “At this stage of my career it makes sense to look at it each year.

“Because I missed so much footy this year, my body’s feeling quite fresh. I’ll take a break for a few weeks, then get back into a running program and start to prepare for next year.”

West Coast list and contracts manager Craig Vozzo is delighted that all four players have re-committed to the club.

“We see all of those players as integral members of our squad,” Vozzo said. “Obviously, Andrew Embley has been a remarkable player throughout his 14 seasons at the club and it is terrific that he will play on.

“He is a high achiever, a premiership player and offers important guidance to the younger group.

“Brad Sheppard is a player we rate very highly and anticipate he will play a significant role in the improvement we are looking for in pushing inside the top four and enhancing our premiership aspirations.

“He has many of the traits we need to take that next quantum leap and after recent surgery, we look forward to a strong pre-season from him as part of his planned development.

“Pat McGinnity was one of our most consistent players throughout the year and Jacob Brennan had an outstanding debut season.”

Lynch is able to invoke free agency and has been linked to a move from the club to seek greater opportunities.
