Wilder's days numbered: Browne

Lucas Browne and Mark de Mori are both keen for a crack at Deontay Wilder

UPDATE: Unbeaten Aussie banger Lucas Browne has warned Deontay Wilder his days as WBC heavyweight champion are numbered following the American's first defence of his title over the weekend.

Wilder drew widespread criticism for his display despite knocking out his fellow American Eric Molina in the ninth round in Birmingham, Alabama.

Browne said he saw enough to convince him he can become Australia's first world heavyweight boxing champion if he gets a shot at the 'Bronze Bomber'.

"I think he was a sad champion. He looked gun shy, and didn't know what to do when his right hand wasn't landing," Browne told thewest.com.au

"He also got rocked with nothing shots that I would've killed him with. He's always open, (he) has a jab and a hook-straight and that's it.

"It won't be long before his time is up. Molina looked scared and to be honest shouldn't have even been there to begin with.

"I'd love to fight both and show how it's done."

Former Perth doorman Browne, the reigning Commonwealth champion who now trains under Jeff Fenech in Sydney, has won all 22 of his fights, 19 of them early.

With the backing of promoter Ricky Hatton he is No.3 in the WBA rankings and was this year named the mandatory challenger to the sanctioning body's 'regular' champion Ruslan Chagaev.

However, that fight is on the back-burner after a legal tangle involving Chagaev which has resulted in Uzbeki now defending against Francesco Pianeta next month, then possibly meeting former foe Fres Oquendo.

Meanwhile, Perth exile Mark de Mori, who almost got a crack at Wilder, is in Florida this week for “the biggest meeting of my life” with his promoter Don King.

De Mori said he was promised the fight against Wilder but was passed over for Molina, who is also promoted by King.

De Mori, who has lived in Croatia for the past two years, has been with King since 2007 but his current contract runs out in October.

The 33-year-old has a record of 29-1-2 and is ranked eighth by the WBA.
