Happy coincidence for Fever wing attack

This week’s ANZ Championship fixturing could not have worked out better for West Coast Fever wing attack Khao Watts.

Fever take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Adelaide tomorrow in search of their first win since April 26.

It’s a huge game for West Coast, who must find form after consecutive losses, but it’s also Watts’ 10-year anniversary with her boyfriend, Tim.

The Adelaide-based lawyer will be at the game cheering on Watts, who hopes she will have more than just her anniversary to celebrate by the end of the game.

“It’s nice I’ll be able to spend that time with him on the Sunday,” Watts said.

“It’s kind of worked out that we almost always see each other on our anniversary.”

Watts, 26, was plucked from the South Australian State league to play for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in 2012, but said she wouldn’t change the fact she didn’t get the opportunity to play for her home team, the Thunderbirds.

“I have had such a fantastic journey,” she said. I don’t think I’d change it for a second. “I have been able to experience living in another country and now I’ve been able to come and live in beautiful Perth.”

Watts said every game was a must-win for her team with just two matches until finals.

“We’ve really gone into training and upped the intensity and made sure we that we’ve been having really good communication,” she said. “We know that there are absolutely no easy games in the ANZ Championship. “We’ve had to go back and recreate what we were doing well in the early part of the season.”

Watts, who is in the preliminary Australian Diamonds squad for the World Cup, said they hadn’t executed their game plan in losses to Queensland and Melbourne and were keen to get back to their best before finals.

“It definitely will give us confidence going into finals if we can do that,” she said.

“The performance we had against Thunderbirds last time was a really good one. “We definitely will take confidence in that. “But they have improved since then and they’ll be really wanting to finish their season strong.”
