Busselton sounded a stern warning to all rivals that they will be difficult to beat on their home fortress this season, comfortably defeating the reigning premiers by 21 points on Saturday night.

The final score line, Busselton 10.17 (77) to Eaton Boomers 8.8 (56), signposts that the Magpies’ inaccuracy in front of goals arguably kept the visitors in touch for much of the contest.

Donnybrook survived a late rush by the Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault Lions and the marvellous Ashley Thornton to defeat the Lions by 12 points under lights at Brunswick Oval.

Perfect conditions met both sides on Saturday night, with a heavily contested game ending in a Dons third straight win to start the season as they stormed home 12.10 (82) to 11.4 (70).

A MORE mature Carey Park gave the Collie Eagles a lesson in wet weather football Sunday at the Collie Recreation Ground, when they defeated the home side by 38 points.

The Panthers kicked into gear after half-time and kept the Eagles to just five goals for the match, winning 12.7 (79) to 5.11 (41).

SOUTH Bunbury’s loss of scoring power was bluntly highlighted as Harvey Bulls romped to a 60 point win at a wet Harvey Recreation Ground on Sunday.

Last year’s minor premiers could only muster two goals as the hosts comprehensively outplayed them in the 11.11 (77) to 2.5 (17) result.
