Police are investigating allegations of an alcohol-fuelled brawl outside a Leederville nightclub between players from two WAFL clubs that left a former Eagles player and his West Perth teammate in hospital.

Former West Coast midfielder Jordan Jones, 24, and Falcons player Max Alexander, 23, were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after allegedly being injured in the altercation early on Sunday.

Officers were called to the incident involving players from the Subiaco and West Perth football clubs outside the Hip-E-Club on Oxford Street about 4am.

Police said the incident was believed to have involved several people who were intoxicated. One man had an ankle injury and the other cuts to his head.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the injured men both had bruising to the head.

Alexander was believed to still be in hospital yesterday recovering from a fractured ankle.

No charges had been laid late yesterday, though police said inquiries were continuing.

Four Subiaco players are believed to have been involved.

Jones, who played two matches for West Coast before being delisted at the end of 2011, has been recovering from a hamstring injury and did not play for West Perth at the weekend.

Alexander kicked a goal in West Perth's league victory over Peel Thunder on Saturday, with Subiaco posting a win over East Fremantle on the same day.

An emergency meeting between the chief executives from Subiaco and West Perth was held at Domain Stadium yesterday with WA Football Commission pathways and competitions general manager Steve Hargrave.

Players from both clubs were due to be interviewed before training sessions at Medibank Stadium and HBF Arena last night.

Lions chief executive Peter Capes said he was extremely concerned about the incident.

"I was aware some players were treated at the scene, as I'm aware that the police attended," he said. "We're concerned about why there's fighting between players involved at two clubs."

West Perth chief executive David Crute said he could not confirm the extent of injuries to the club's players. "We'll be in a position in the next couple of days to shed further light on the matter," he said.

The altercation will heighten tensions between Subiaco and West Perth ahead of a showdown at Medibank Stadium on Saturday week.
