Top hopes on show in Reisling and the Todman

Godolphin's pecking order for the Golden Slipper should be sorted out at Randwick, while Gerald Ryan will get a clear idea if he has a genuine chance in the two-year-old showpiece.

Ryan has nominated Perignon and Fireworks for Saturday's Reisling Stakes in which they will be up against Antelucan, Calaverite and Ottoman - three of the many chances trainer John O'Shea prepares for Sheikh Mohammed's global operation.

An unlucky fifth in the Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast in January, Perignon will also be nominated for Sunday's Black Opal Stakes at Canberra.

Widden Stakes winner Fireworks needs to perform well to justify owner John Camilleri paying $150,000 to put her in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on March 21 as a late entry.

"Perignon had a few days in the paddock after the Magic Millions, but was kept ticking over with work on the water walker," Ryan said.

"I'll look at the fields for both the Reisling and the Black Opal before deciding which race she runs in. She looks terrific and Kerrin McEvoy will ride her.

"Fireworks has done well since the Widden. She is not a big filly, but she maintains her weight."

Brenton Avdulla, who rode Fireworks to her come-from- behind win over Lake Geneva in the Widden, will again ride her.

Lake Geneva, trained by Team Hawkes, was a fast-finishing third in Saturday's Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

In Perignon's three starts, she has come out of the gates slowly and mustered speed late.

There were 10 entries for the Reisling taken yesterday and seven for the colts and geldings division, the Todman Stakes.

O'Shea's Todman entries are Furnaces and Chamarel, who will be up against the Golden Slipper market leaders Head- water and Vancouver.

·Beaten Blue Diamond favourite Fontiton has emerged from the race with an injury which will require surgery.

She will have two bone chips removed from her off-fore fetlock.

"The prognosis is very good and the time she needs to convalesce will coincide with the time she would have been spelling," trainer Robert Smerdon said.
