UPDATE: One of Perth's bright young boxing prospects has been dealt a cruel blow with his career over after just four fights following an incident during sparring.

Wangara-based cruiserweight Ben Page revealed he suffered a seizure during a light sparring session on Friday afternoon, which resulted in him suffering a bleed on the brain.

Now he is waiting to see if he needs surgery, but conceded his fledgling career is finished.

"Well that's boxing, (you) can take hundreds of punches in fights then on a Friday arvo jus doin some friendly sparing u can get hit in the wrong spot and bang have seizure and end up in hospital with bleeding on outside of your brain," Page wrote on Facebook.

"Been monitered to see if u need to be operated on, jus the luck of the draw that's my boxing career over ... such an unlucky turn of events, but that's life can happen to anyone, jus waiting for next few days to see how my brain reacts to it all to determine weather I need to go into surgery or not.

"That's my boxing career done, jus got unlucky can happen to anyone, I'm jus so grateful that I'm alive I'm extremely dissapointed this is the end! But hey I'm alive "I could have permenant brain damage so things could be so much worst Such is life as Ned Kelly says, jus gotta get through this n be thankful I'm alive!"

Page, who is trained by Danny Green's former coach Angelo Hyder at the Dragon Fire Gym on Prindiville Road, won the State title in his second fight.

He lost the belt in an eight-round thriller to Rob Powdrill next time out but bounced back with a 10-round points win over experienced Oscar Siale in Kalgoorlie in December last year.

He was scheduled to fight Steven Kennedy on Dragon Fire Boxing's Thunderdome X show at Metro City, Perth, on April 10.

- Former Australian middleweight champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jarrod Fletcher has announced his retirement from boxing.

Fletcher, 31, made the announcement today after losing his last two bouts.

He was stopped by American Danny Jacobs while challenging for the WBA 'regular' world title last August, then lost a lop-sided points decision to Daniel Geale in Sydney in December 2014.

Fletcher, (18-3) who also challenged for the Commonwealth title, fought in Perth in 2012 when he outpointed Robbie Bryant at the WA Italian Club.

- Danny Green has led tributes to dual Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Ben McEachran, whose body was found on Thursday morning.

Green once sparred McEachran and was at a training camp with the Queenslander 15 years ago.

“I’m so sad to hear about Ben’s passing. He was a lovely bloke, a really quiet, gentle guy who turned into a terrific fighter when the bell rang," Green told the Courier Mail.

“We were in a training camp together at the Australian Institute of Sport in 2000 and I remember he was a very strong, very fit country boy with a big heart.”
