Miller to unleash jewel for Karrakatta

Puteri Jewel is ready to stake her claim on the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate after a minor hoof injury forced her out of last Saturday's Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic.

The two-year-old has recovered in time to take her place in today's Westminster National Equipment Finance Plate (1000m) at Ascot.

"The farrier just got a few nails a bit tight on her hoof," trainer Simon Miller said.

"It was just unlucky. I got her right by Sunday night and she worked well on Tuesday and she's ready to go."

Puteri Jewel, a half-sister to Miller's former top three-year-old Hard Ball Get, proved her class with a strong Ascot win on debut last month.

She led all the way and survived a protest from runner-up London Line to deliver her sire, Demerit, a crucial first winner.

Miller is confident Puteri Jewel will prove hard to beat today en route to the Ascot autumn carnival.

She will head to the $150,000 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) on March 14 and WA's biggest two-year-old race, the Karrakatta Plate (1200m), on March 28.

"She should be in the finish," Miller said.

"She's improved from her first-up run and she's always shown me she's a nice filly.

"She'll go three weeks to the Gimcrack then the Karrakatta."

Puteri Jewel drew barrier seven in a field of eight with Peter Knuckey booked for the ride.

She is the second elect at $3 with the TAB.

One Off The Wood, an Ascot winner last month and last-start third behind Saxophonist, is the $2.60 favourite.

Miller scratched his unbeaten filly Disco Metal from today's Westminster National Business Finance Handicap (1400m).
