Germany plot Davis Cup revenge on France

Berlin (AFP) - Germany will host 2014 Davis Cup runners-up France in the first round of next year's World Group on the hardcourt of the Fraport Arena in Frankfurt, where the hosts beat Spain last season.

The German tennis federation announced on Thursday that the Davis Cup World Group first round tie will take place from March 6-8.

Germany beat Spain, who were without Rafael Nadal, 4-1 last February in the first round in Frankfurt, but in the quarter-finals in Nancy the Germans threw away a 2-0 advantage to lose 3-2 to France.

France went on to beat the Czech Republic (4-1) before losing the final in Lille (3-1) to Switzerland.

"Even if it will be difficult, obviously we want our revenge. In Nancy, we nearly pulled off an upset," said Germany captain Carsten Arriens.

Germany have won the Davis Cup three times -- 1988, 1989 and 1993. France are joint-third on the all-time list of champions, winning nine times -- most recently in 2001.

The winner will meet either the United States or Britain in the quarter-finals.
