Exciting Perth Glory winger Sidnei Sciola will miss the club's FFA Cup tie next month and is in doubt for the start of the A-League season after injuring a hamstring at training.

The skilful Brazilian, who thrilled fans with his trickery on the flanks in his first season at Glory, is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.

Glory take on third-tier Victorian club St Albans Saints in the FFA Cup round of 16 on September 23 and open their A-League campaign away to Wellington Phoenix on October 12.

Sidnei was one of several first-choice players on the sidelines as Glory beat NPL WA side Cockburn City 3-0 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

Mitch Nichols was rested, while Ruben Zadkovich and Rostyn Griffiths are still recovering from knee injuries.

High-profile recruit Andy Keogh was again in the thick of the action, scoring a goal from the penalty spot and another in open play.

Glory were the A-League's lowest scoring team last season, but already look capable of turning that around this year.

Coach Kenny Lowe has signed eight new players with an emphasis on boosting his attack.

Republic of Ireland striker Keogh looks a fantastic find, while Nichols, Youssouf Hersi and Richard Garcia will add class and depth in the front third.

"We've got some quality players and we allow them to express themselves," Lowe said.

"The top six - the front two and the midfield four - we give licence to be expressive, and also the full-backs to go and join in.

"Sometimes we've got to be a little bit careful and keep the balance so we don't get caught out.

"But we've got some good players, so we've got to allow them to be good players."

Glory still have one spot free for an overseas player and Lowe said he was on the lookout for someone who could add further depth in the front third.

·Italian-bound Glory youngster Daniel De Silva was yesterday named in the 20-player Young Socceroos squad for next month's ASEAN Football Federation Youth Championship.

De Silva will remain at Glory this season before moving to Serie A club AS Roma.
