Slick CBC clear minor premiers

Fremantle CBC confirmed their premiership favouritism in the WA Amateur Football League A Grade after beating premiership rival Wesley Curtin by 28 points in the final round on Saturday.

Fremantle eked out a three-goal lead by half-time, 6.3 to 3.3, and they steered further away in the third quarter at Curtin University's South Oval.

But it could have been better for them. Though CBC had many scoring opportunities on the back of slick midfield work, they were let down at times by kicking behinds or losing possession in the forward 50. They had only 4.7 to show for their third-term domination and 5.12 for the half.

Constant attacking forays and three goals by Wesley Curtin early in the final quarter gave them a sniff of victory. But CBC's defence held firm.

Trinty Aquinas cemented fourth spot with a solid four-goal win over Kalamunda at Grayden Reserve. Trinity had a better-functioning forward line, including sure-handed former Claremont player David Crawford who kicked three goals, and James Grierson who booted four goals for the second week in a row.

Chris Holmes kicked four goals for Kalamunda.

The two teams play each other again at the same place in the elimination final next Saturday. It has been a sterling performance by Kalamunda to make the finals after being promoted from B Grade last season and suffering a mid-season slump this year when they dropped to as low as seventh.

Wesley Curtin will host University in the qualifying final.

In other final-round games on Saturday, North Beach - who still mathematically could have reached the finals - completed a season to forget, losing at home to relegation-bound Whitford.

North Beach, once a perennial power, finished seventh. Swan Athletic join Whitford in relegation to B Grade.

In the B Grade finals which started on Saturday, Scarborough returned to the form they had shown for most of the season by beating Wembley in the qualifying final at Henderson Park.

Kelmscott disposed of Hamersley Carine in the elimination final.
