Xpress to tackle best mares

WA pacer Arma Xpress has been flown to Melbourne and will tackle a Breeders Crown four-year-old mares heat (2240m) for trainer-reinsman Donald Harper at Melton tomorrow.

Harper said yesterday he was confident Arma Xpress, who has won 12 of her 14 starts, would qualify for the $100,000 4YO Mares Final (2240m) on August 30.

"She's settling in well here," Harper said. "She took a while to regain her appetite after Tuesday night's flight. But I'm happy with her now and her work is good."

Arma Xpress, who drew gate four in her heat, impressed when she won first-up over 1684m at Pinjarra on August 4.

Her Gloucester Park wins include the $125,000 Golden Slipper Pace (2100m) and a $100,000 Sales Classic (1700m).

Byford trainer Noel Keiley has last-start Gloucester Park winner Braeview Bomber in a Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings semifinal (2200m) at Ballarat tonight.

He will be driven by Perth reinsman Morgan Woodley.
