Eye-catching McCann in final
The striking dyed yellow hair caught everyone’s attention before the final heat of the women’s 100m hurdle sat Glasgow 2014.
Then WA’s Shannon McCann’s performance caught everyone’s eye at Hampden Park tonight.
McCann clocked 13.34 seconds to be the seventh fastest qualifier for tomorrow night’s Commonwealth Games final.
And it is fair to write that she was happy with the result.
“It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t great, it wasn’t a fast time but I made it through and that’s all that matters,” McCann said.
“I’m in the final, anything can happen in hurdles.”
McCann was slow off the blocks in the third heat but her closing speed was impressive and she finished second behind Canadian Angela Whyte (13.33s) by the barest of margins.

“That’s my trademark mate. I’ve been working really hard on the starts but I’m just an athlete that doesn’t explode very well,” McCann said “It is something I can work on and build into Rio and by then hopefully by then I’ll nail it.”
McCann joins Michelle Jenneke (13.33s) and fastest qualifier Sally Pearson (12.69s)to give Australia the chance of a medal trifecta.
“I’m going to have fun out there and enjoy it. We have three Australians. What more can you say mate. I don’t think it is has every happened in the history of forever,” McCann said.
