Fremantle will host Port Adelaide in a Saturday afternoon clash under the fixtures for the final round of the home-and-away season released by the AFL this morning.

The round 23 match at Patersons Stadium between the two top-four contenders has been scheduled for a 1.10pm start on Saturday, August 30.

The fixture will almost certainly guarantee the Dockers a seven-day break heading into a potential qualifying final that will be decided by results from their remaining five matches of the regular season.

AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said the schedule had taken into account allowing the Power to return to Adelaide that night.

Premiers Hawthorn have been put into the Friday night timeslot, with their game against Collingwood at the MCG set for August 29.

The fixture is not as kind to West Coast in the unlikely event the Eagles can somehow pull off a shock finals appearance by turning around their season over the final month.

They will play Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Sunday, August 31 in an afternoon match.

League leaders Sydney will host Richmond at the SCG in the round's Saturday twilight match, while Geelong will face Brisbane later that night at Simonds Stadium.
