Super Swans reel in the Demons

Swan Districts moved two games clear at the top of the WAFL premiership ladder after beating Perth by 37 points at Lathlain Park today.

Swans overcame a sluggish start, coming from 37 points down in the second quarter, to run out convincing 18.15 (123) to 13.8 (86) winners.

The black and whites led by just one point at three-quarter time but sealed their eighth consecutive victory by kicking the first seven goals of the final term.

Key forward Tim Geappen was the hero with 20 possessions, 12 marks, six inside 50s and six goals for the black and whites.

Defender Graham Jetta, midfielders Blaine Boekhorst, Matt Riggio and Adam Faulkner and tall utility player Tony Notte were also prominent for Swan Districts.

Captain Paul Bevan was a standout for the Demons while Mitch Morton made the most of his chances with five first-half goals.

Swans had all the early play but couldn’t convert that ascendancy on the scoreboard.

Perth kicked the first six goals of the match, ahead by 31 points – 6.1 (37) to 0.6 (6) – after Brennan Stack kicked accurately at the 24-minute mark of the first quarter.

Swans hit back with the last two goals of the term but still trailed by 19 points at the first change.

The Demons skipped 37 points clear after booting four of the first five goals of the second stanza, Morton snaring his fourth and fifth, before the black and whites mounted a strong challenge.

Swans kicked five of the next six goals to narrow the gap to 12 points at half time

The Demons made two late changes with Joel Kalajzic and Matt Boyle coming into the 22 for Cale Morton and Mitch Leyendekkers.

Perth won both minor grades, taking out the colts by two points and the reserves by 23 points.

Gerald Ugle responded in the best way possible after being dropped with 27 possessions, three marks, three tackles, and six inside 50s.

Brad Fry and Nick Kane also did well in the early game to stake their claim for a recall to the senior side.
