Perth's Daniel Ricciardo has lost his appeal against his disqualification in the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in March.

Ricciardo crossed the line second at his home grand prix on March 16 only to be stripped of his place after the team was found guilty of breaching fuel flow regulations.

Red Bull put its case to the FIA's International Court of Appeal on Monday and the team came under fire by rivals Mercedes, who said it flouted rules and should be shown a "yellow card" to stop it from becoming a repeat offender.

In a ruling issued this afternoon, the International Court of Appeal upheld the decision to disqualify Ricciardo.

"The Court, after having heard the parties and examined their submissions, decided to uphold the decision by which they decided to exclude Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s car N°3 from the results of the 2014 Australian Grand Prix," the court said in a statement.
