National Premier Leagues WA club Inglewood United is poised to score a major coup by signing former Adelaide United striker Teeboy Kamara.

In 2011, Kamara became the A-League’s youngest player when he made his debut for Adelaide against Gold Coast United when he was 15.

Inglewood coach Graham Normanton is hopeful the paperwork will be completed in time for Kamara to play a part in tomorrow’s match against Sorrento at Intiga Stadium.

“He runs like the wind, he goes past people like they are standing still and he’s got very good feet,” Normanton said. “He trained with us last night and you can see he’s played at a decent level.”

Inglewood have been in discussions with Kamara for a few weeks but have been waiting on Adelaide to confirm his release.

“It’s fantastic for Inglewood,” Normanton said. “He wants to re-establish himself as a quality footballer and it’s great that he sees us as a stepping stone back into the A-League.”

Inglewood started their NPL WA campaign last week with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Floreat Athena in which “everything” went wrong, according to Normanton.

“It was all a bit of a fizzer,” Normanton said. “But we’ve learnt from it and the kids and the new players have got that game under their belt.

“Sorrento work hard and you know what they will do but it’s being able to stop that. I think we can beat them but we’ve got to be a whole lot better than we were last week.”

Jamie Harnwell, who shares Sorrento coaching duties with Trevor Morgan, said the Gulls also needed to improve despite their 2-1 win over Balcatta last week.

“We’ve worked on defensive shape to make sure we can defend well and give ourselves a platform to win games,” Harnwell said.

“Inglewood lost last week so they are going to be hurting.”

Tomorrow’s game at Intiga Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
