South Africa added Kyle Abbott to their squad for the series-deciding Test in Cape Town, with Wayne Parnell ruled out of the match.

Parnell suffered a groin injury in the Proteas' crushing 231-run series-levelling win in Port Elizabeth, and on Monday was officially scratched.

Ryan McLaren returns to the squad after recovering from the Mitchell Johnson bouncer in the first Test that left him with post-concussion syndrome.

McLaren is likely to take Parnell's place in the XI for the clash that starts on Saturday at Newlands, although Proteas' selectors may opt for the in-form Abbott.

Right-armer Abbott is the leading wicket-taker in South Africa's domestic four-day competition, with 22 wickets at an average 13.09 in five matches.

The 26-year-old claimed match figures of 12-125 in his side's recent clash in Paarl.

Alviro Petersen has recovered from his bout of gastro and is likely to replace Quinton de Kock in the side that thumped Australia.
