All-rounder ready to Tye one on in Big Bash

WA's Andrew Tye will play alongside Mike Hussey at the Sydney Thunder in the third instalment of the Big Bash League.

Tye, 26, made an impressive debut in the Ryobi Cup earlier in the season, ending the round-robin stage as the tournament's leading wicket-taker.

He also scored 91 runs at an average of 22.3.

In his latest first grade game for Scarborough a fortnight ago, he claimed 4-25 and made an unbeaten 76 from 47 balls.

A nagging hip injury could keep the bowling all-rounder out of contention for the first two BBL games, but he isn't complaining.

"I'm thrilled to be given the chance to potentially play against some of the biggest names in the world," Tye said.

"It will be a pretty good experience. Hopefully I'll be able to learn a lot from guys like Dirk Nannes, who's played so much T20 cricket."

Sydney Thunder failed to win a game last season, but have been bolstered by Hussey, Sri Lankan veteran Tillakaratne Dilshan and short-form specialist Eoin Morgan.

Michael Clarke and David Warner are also in the squad, but will be on international duties for most of the summer.

The Thunder's first fixture is a derby against cross-town rivals Sydney Sixers at the SCG on December 21.

Tye hopes to be available for the clash with Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground a fortnight later.

His longer-term priority, however, remains breaking into WA's Sheffield Shield side.

"But at this point I'm just looking at getting myself right and playing well for the Sydney Thunder if I get a chance," he said.
