Strong WA flavour in All Australian squad

Five Fremantle players and two from West Coast are in the initial squad of 40 up for All Australian selection.

Nathan Fyfe, Michael Johnson, Chris Mayne, David Mundy and Michael Walters have earned the interim recognition, along with Eagles Josh Kennedy and Eric Mackenzie.

Harry Taylor, Daniel Wells and Lance Franklin are other West Australians in the squad.

Brownlow Medal favourite Gary Ablett is in line to make his seventh consecutive All Australian side, but two of the eight AFL finalists have no players in the initial squad of 40 named today.

Richmond and Carlton have failed to get a single player in the squad despite making the finals.

Essendon, thrown out of the finals following the supplements scandal, have just one player in the squad, skipper Jobe Watson.

But North Melbourne, who failed to make the top eight thanks to several close losses, have four players.

Hawthorn, Geelong, Fremantle and Sydney each supply five members of the 40-man squad.

And Greater Western Sydney have their first potential All Australian in exciting forward Jeremy Cameron.

Adelaide utility Richard Douglas is among 25 players in the squad who have never been selected for All Australian honours.
