Perth Wildcats swingman Cam Tovey has been ruled out for at least a fortnight after succumbing to a nagging hip complaint.

Tovey has been struggling with the injury for several weeks and has been told to rest in order to return to full fitness before the play-offs.

Tovey will miss this week's important games against reigning champions New Zealand (Friday) and fourth-placed Wollongong (Sunday).

The Wildcats have boosted their travelling support staff with the addition of strength and conditioning coach Will Markwick for the trip to Auckland.

Markwick doesn't normally travel with the team, but coach Rob Beveridge said the short turnaround between games made the fitness guru's presence a necessity this week.

An extra stand has been erected at Vector Arena to cope with demand for tickets to the Breakers-Wildcats blockbuster.

The Wildcats have beaten the Breakers in both their clashes this season but sit second on the ladder behind their rivals and will have to deal with a parochial Kiwi crowd of more than 9000 fans.

The temporary stand has raised the venue's capacity from 8500 to 9200.
