Hill prepared for forward line scrap
West Coast goal sneak Josh Hill says the return of injured stars Mark LeCras and Mark Nicoski will only help the club as he and his teammates fight for spots in a potent forward line next season.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid first season at the Eagles after being traded from the Western Bulldogs, playing 22 games and booting 36 goals.
But he knows he will face stiff competition from experienced campaigners such as LeCras and Nicoski, whose injuries provided his opening to play last season.
“I think it is just going to motivate the boys to perform that one step better,” he said
Hill said the side was travelling well so far in their preparations for season 2013.
“There aren’t too many injuries, which is good for us and a lot of the boys have had a good start to pre-season.”
He said he was focussing on tackling and fitness as he looks to elevate his game once again.
“All the boys have their individual stuff they want to work on and they have all been working on that very well.”
Speaking at West Coast’s annual Christmas visit to Princess Margaret Hospital today, Hill said being home in Perth had helped him produce his best season to date.
“Coming home to the family support and all the friends off the field has been great for me," he said.
“It was a bit tough for me moving to Melbourne at first not knowing anyone there and it has definitely given me a bit more of a boost being able to be back home and really being able to enjoy my footy.”
Hill was joined by new recruit Sharrod Wellingham as well as Ashton Hams, Nicoski, LeCras and Matt Rosa at PMH.
“I really enjoy seeing the kids and it is definitely good to give back,” he said.
