Rego day for tri club

Geraldton Triathlon Club will hold its registration day this Sunday at St George’s Beach ahead of its new season.

The club hosted its first event of the season last Saturday at Medallion Beach, a splash and thrash event which was not timed or recorded.

Competitors completed a 400m swim, 400m beach run, 4km paddle, 6km mountain bike ride and 4km run.

Club president Simon Teakle was pleased with the turnout.

“We had 20 starters, mostly teams, and the first over the line was Jason Joyner,” he said.

“Isaac Murray had a brilliant swim as a junior and was first out of the water overall. Jason made all his ground in the paddle and run sections and was never really challenged.”

Registration day for the club’s 2012/13 season is on this Sunday with the first club event taking place straight after.

The race begins at 8.30am with registration beforehand.

Other important dates on the triathlon calendar include the first three club championship races that will take place before February.

Race one of the six-race championship starts on November 18 before race two on December 9.

Athletes at the top of the standings will need to shake off the holiday weight before the third race on January 13.
