Broome Barracudas Swimming Club will host the 2012 Be Active Kimberley Open Short Course this weekend from October 5 to 7 at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

The Healthway-supported event will draw 151 competitors from 21 clubs including two from the Northern Territory and one team from Victoria. The WA teams include eight Perth metropolitan clubs competing.

Many country clubs were travelling to Broome this week for the meet, including Derby, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie, Narrogin, Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Wickham.

This year’s new distance events have been added to the program including the 400m individual medley and the 800m and 1500m freestyle. Broome Barracudas have, in advance, thanked Swimming WA officials including Kaye and Jim Bolger, who were expected to travel from Perth and Albany to oversee the competition.

Events start at 2.30pm this Friday, October 5, and run all day Saturday and Sunday with a break for lunch.

Spectators have been invited to witness some fast and exciting action at BRAC, with all swimmers trying hard to record the quickest times possible.
