Boston Red Sox scout Steve Fish has been given the task of guiding Perth Heat to a third successive Australian Baseball League championship after taking over from Brooke Knight as manager.
Fish, a former pitcher within the LA Angels organisation, guided the Wanneroo Giants to the State league championship in 2010-11.
Knight led the Heat to successive titles in 2011-12 but opted to stay in the United States with his family rather than return to Perth for a third year at the helm.
Fish hopes to continue his predecessor's run of success.
"These guys have proved that they know how to win championships," Fish said.
"It's my job to make sure we're in a position to repeat that success, grow as athletes and bring another Claxton Shield title to our incredible fan base."
Fish will continue in his role as player development manager and work with athletes across WA to give them a chance of progressing to major league level.
Hitting coach Greg Jelks will join Fish on the coaching staff.
Top American pitcher Virgil Vasquez, who won the championship series MVP award after joining the Heat late last season, has agreed to return for a full campaign this year.
The Heat begin their title defence away to Adelaide Bite from November 1-3 and open their 2012-13 home season with three games against Melbourne Aces at Barbagallo Ballpark from November 16-18.
