TAYLOR COURTLAND Breast awareness: Murchison's Kayley Bean and Saints' Charlene Watters show off this weekend's Pink Day at Hockey uniforms.

The Geraldton Hockey Association’s second annual Pink Day round this weekend is set to be bigger and better than last year.

The special event is aimed to promote greater awareness and support for breast cancer, kidney health and infant research.

Kayley Bean, one of the organisers, said last year’s Saints and Murchison women’s A-grade teams played in a special pink match, wearing pink and black shirts provided by sponsors.

“There were a few mothers directly involved with those clubs who were suffering from breast cancer and we wanted to show our support for them,” she said.

This year the event has been expanded to all women’s teams across A-grade and A-reserve.

Teams will wear special pink and black shirts which read “have you had your breasts checked?” across the front.

Bean said the Association had received an overwhelming response, with 12 teams across the league obtaining sponsorship for the shirts.

Each individual player then contributes a fee to keep their shirt, with those funds going directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation, the Women’s and Infants Research Foundation and Kidney Health Australia.

Bean said the association decided to include the Women and Infants Research Foundation and Kidney Health Australia this year after a number of personal events which occurred this season.

The Pink round kicked off last night with the A-reserve game between Murchison Two and Yacht Club Two and continues all weekend.

The association will be holding a cake stall on Saturday morning and a number of raffles throughout the day.

The weekend’s events will be topped off with a Pink Night at the hockey clubrooms starting at 7 o’clock after the last game on Saturday.

There will be a DJ, games, prizes and of course, a pink theme.

Tickets are on sale at the clubrooms for $15 with all proceeds to go to the three foundations.
