West Perth dynamo Shane Nelson has been given another opportunity to make his way onto an AFL list after missing out in last year's national draft.

The 19-year-old was today named in the intake of small defenders, midfielders and forwards for the 2012 AFL draft combines.

The midfielder will attend the WA State screening alongside fellow Falcon Bayden Antonio, Subiaco's Dylan Clarke and East Perth's Shaquille McKenzie. Players are invited to the screening if they are nominated by between one and four AFL clubs.

Adam Carter (South Fremantle), Chris Deluca (Subiaco) and Shannon Taylor (Claremont) were all invited to the National draft combine, to be held at Etihad Stadium in October.

Nelson was considered a near-certainty to be drafted last year after being one of the shining lights in a disappointing under-18 championships for Western Australia.

An illness suffered before the draft combine saw him lose 7kg and limit his involvement in the testing, but Nelson still managed to post a near-perfect 29 out of a possible 30 points in the kicking test.

Despite the result, he was overlooked in both the national and rookie drafts.

Nelson has averaged 24.7 disposals for West Perth this year since earning promotion to the league side in round seven.

His most dominant performance came against Peel in round 19, picking up 34 touches and two goals in his side's 100-point win.

The state combine will be held on October 14.
