Roos outplay lacklustre Bridgetown

Roos outplay lacklustre Bridgetown

Boyup Brook Roos finished the 2014 qualifying season on a high when they outplayed the Bridgetown Bulldogs by 93 points at Boyup Oval on Saturday.

The final score of 19.14 (128) to 5.5 (35) was symptomatic of the one-sided contest where the Roos played with greater desire and enthusiasm.

Boyup Brook brushed aside a Bulldogs outfit that had little appetite for any form of work rate to compete.

Boasting a dominant centre square clearance rate, courtesy of David Winter, Rhien Lloyd and Cameron Penny, the Roos took an early stranglehold on the game, a fact illustrated by five unanswered majors in the first term.

The visitors had no answer for the strength of Winter who fed his ground players with distinction as they teamed with precision to eclipse the Bulldogs flimsy attempt to compete.

The Bulldogs lacked the work ethic to challenge the hard running Roos with no chasing, being second to the ball and not being accountable.

Mitch Baldock, Darren Tassos and Clinton Best were lone soldiers in the face of a Roos team on the run.

As Winter and Lloyd plundered possession from the midfield, Michael McLeod was a leading light up forward, leading with purpose and taking solid grabs to enhance the imposing scoreboard score.

To ensure the Roos complete controll, their young guns in Taylor North, McKenzie Nix, Ben Thompson, Adam North and Gray Cowan all played with poise as they contributed with an enthusiasm the Bulldogs could not match.

To the Bulldogs’ credit they eventually found some cohesion late in the game.
