Music fills the air in Bridgetown

The 15th annual Blackwood River Chamber Festival will fill Bridgetown with the sounds of music this Saturday and Sunday.

Festival directors and musicians Sally Boud and Geoffrey Bourgault are organising the festival for the first time after Vincent Moleta passed the reins.

Ms Boud said she enjoyed the freedom of being a musician and organiser of the festival. She will play viola and Mr Bourgault will play clarinet.

“It gives you free reign because you can be quite idealistic about it and you can ask the people you want to perform with, ” she said.

Other musicians are Anna Sleptsova on piano, Margaret Blades and Anne Horton on violin, Michael Goldschlager on cello and Morgan Remaj on guitar.

The program includes three locations, with two performances at The Shed on Dalmore Farm during Saturday. Ms Boud said the venue, which was being used for the first time by the festival, would be a unique experience.

“It’s a converted shearing shed but it has been renovated with polished floors boards and the acoustics are amazing, ” she said.

“The evening concert on Saturday at the Emporium Bistro will include a dinner that will highlight local produce.”

A children’s concert today will feature a performance of Peter and the Wolf.

“Kids in the city have many opportunities to listen to all types of music and I believe children in regional areas should have the chance, ” Ms Boud said.
