Bunbury's Zarah Smith will feature in next year’s Ralph calendar after finishing in the top 12 at the Ralph Swimwear Model of the Year competition in Sydney.
The 24-year-old competed in the final against 38 girls from Australia and New Zealand, spending 10 hours a day in dance rehearsals before taking part in a spectacular dance show as part of selection process.
The mother of a two-year-old daughter, Mrs Smith said she had enjoyed the support of her fellow competitors and there was none of the bitchiness people often associated with modelling competitions.
‘‘You put on a huge big dancing show, the whole thing runs for about two hours, so there’s a lot to learn and all the girls really bond well and you’re almost like old friends,’’ Mrs Smith said.
Confident onstage, Mrs Smith said she was more worried about wardrobe malfunctions because being a swimsuit competition, there wasn’t a ‘‘whole lot of room for error’’.
Not afraid of carbs and a self-confessed Chicken Treat fan, Mrs Smith said her preparation in the lead up to the event entailed little more than eating a healthy diet and running.
Juggling married life with work, competing and caring for her daughter keeps the model mum on her toes, but she would not have it any other way.
‘‘I like to keep busy — it makes me happy so it’s something I really enjoy doing,’’ Mrs Smith said.
